The short answer: Yeongjong’s resident public-transport refund is paid after eligible travel; it is not an automatic discount at the station gate. Register your residence, refund account and the card you actually tap. If you use a phone, that can mean the mobile transit-card number rather than the number printed on the bank card.
This was the most useful distinction in my Korean guide: a journey can be eligible while the payment record fails to match your registered card. Before calculating a refund, check the account setup. The official Tmoney portal and its 2026 notices were rechecked on September 19.
Is this for tourists or island residents?
The programme is for qualifying residents of the designated Yeongjong and Bukdo areas using Yeongjong Station (영종역) or Unseo Station (운서역). It compensates the difference between the relevant paid fare and a fare calculated under the metropolitan integrated-transfer arrangement. It is not a refund of every AREX fare, and merely changing trains on the island does not establish residence eligibility.
Which 2026 application period applies now?
| When residence support is applied for | Travel period covered by that quarter |
|---|---|
| September 11–December 10, 2026 | Fourth-quarter window: September–November 2026 |
| After a missed earlier-quarter deadline | No automatic back-payment for that missed quarter |
Existing members should not mistake this for an instruction to submit a fresh application every quarter. The portal says one annual residence verification can cover the remaining quarters of the year; the next annual application opens December 11. Check 지원금신청결과 to see whether your application is already recorded.
What has to match before travel is counted?
Use the official portal, incheonyj.tmoney.co.kr. The registration sequence includes identity verification, address verification, a refund account and a transit card. New membership and the support application are linked in the source guide, but the result screen is the place to confirm completion.
Only one transit card is registered. For phone payments, open the transit-card app and find the mobile transit-card number. Registering the physical credit-card number instead can leave the transport journeys unmatched. Recheck after changing a phone or SIM because the mobile card number can change. The source guide says changed-card travel is reflected from the following day.
The account for receiving the payment is a separate field from the card that records journeys. For children, guardian consent and account arrangements can differ. If your foreign-resident identity or address cannot be verified, ask portal support at 1833-4899 rather than assuming a tourist registration or someone else’s account can substitute.
Can you receive K-pass and this refund together?
The portal requires the same card in both schemes and removes the overlapping benefit. Its February 19, 2026 notice gives a clear example: a ₩20,000 Yeongjong support amount with a 20% K-pass refund rate becomes ₩16,000 after the ₩4,000 overlap is removed. This is the official example, not a forecast of your payment.
The notice also distinguishes the basic K-pass type from 모두의 카드. Do not apply the example’s 20% to every account. The applicable refund ratio can differ, so compare your payment with the notice for your actual type.
Frequently asked questions
Do I receive cash at the ticket gate? No. The guide describes quarterly deposits into the registered refund account, with payments in March, June, September and December.
Can I use a family member’s transit card? Do not lend or borrow registered cards to claim the benefit. The source warns that misuse can stop payment and trigger recovery.
Is bridge toll registration the same programme? No. Bridge support uses a vehicle and Hi-pass registration. This programme uses public-transport records and a refund account.
