The short answer: for Unseo, the all-stop train takes 8 minutes from Terminal 1 and 14 minutes from Terminal 2. Adult transport-card fares are ₩1,200 and ₩1,800 respectively: a difference of 6 minutes and ₩600 each way. Taxi routes vary by destination, so do not add one fixed allowance to every trip. Confirm your arrival and departure terminals before planning.

Choose your route first: staying airside → follow the green transfer signs for your departing terminal. Entering Korea → confirm entry eligibility, whether bags need collecting, and the airline’s check-in cutoff. An airside shuttle train and the public AREX train are different services; do not leave security just to change terminals.

Use the terminal shown on your current booking. Route times below refer to specific destinations, not to the island as a whole.

Why does it matter which terminal you land in?

T1 and T2 are separate buildings with their own arrival halls and train stations. Check the airline’s current terminal information for both flights. If the airline on your ticket and the terminal on the board disagree, the operating flight number is the one that decides.

For an airside connection, follow the airport’s transfer signs. For an outing, use the route from your arrival terminal and back to your departure terminal. The airport time-budget guide covers the separate border and boarding allowances.

How long does the train take from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2?

The AREX all-stop train is the cheapest way off the airport grounds and the only one that is immune to traffic. Unseo is two stops from Terminal 1 and the closest place on the island with ordinary restaurants. From Terminal 1 the ride is seven to eight minutes and costs ₩1,200. From Terminal 2 it is fourteen to fifteen minutes and costs ₩1,800, because Terminal 2 sits one stop farther down the line.

A single-journey ticket or loaded transport card works for the all-stop train. Single tickets add ₩100 to the adult transport-card fare and carry a refundable ₩500 deposit. Compare tickets and T-money before buying; Unseook’s soup guide covers one meal within walking distance.

Is Terminal 2 worse for every destination?

No, and this is the part that gets flattened in most guides. Terminal 2 is worse for the train and worse for Masian Beach. For the other two west-coast spots it is a wash, and for Eurwangni the taxi from Terminal 2 is marginally shorter.

DestinationT1 taxiT1 busT2 taxiT2 bus
Masian Beach (마시안해변)about 12 min30–40 minabout 20 min40–50 min

Gueupbaetteo (구읍뱃터)about 25 min45–60 minabout 25 min45–60 min
One way, August 2026. Bus figures include the walk to the stop but not the wait, which is why they are ranges rather than single numbers.

Masian Beach is about twelve minutes by taxi from Terminal 1 and twenty minutes from Terminal 2. Read the Masian Beach guide for the visit, or Emcliff ocean-view café for a sit-down alternative on the same stretch of coast.

From T1, the recorded bus journey to Eurwangni is closer to the taxi time than the bus journey to Masian. Compare the next departure and your return margin rather than treating one mode as always best.

Bus ranges include walking but exclude the wait for a departure. Check Naver Map for the next bus in both directions before committing.

Can you walk between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2?

No. Do not plan to walk between the terminal buildings. Landside passengers can use the airport train or the free inter-terminal shuttle bus. If you are transferring without entering Korea, none of that applies to you: there is a separate route inside the secure area, and the next section walks it.

This catches people who booked two separate tickets on airlines that use different terminals. Check both boarding passes. Check-in counters close well before departure and the cutoff is set by the airline, so confirm your own carrier’s deadline rather than assuming you can arrive late and sprint.

Do you have to clear immigration to change terminals?

An eligible international-to-international airside connection can use the airport’s secure transfer route without entering Korea. Confirm with the airline that your boarding pass and checked baggage can be handled airside, especially on separate tickets. If you must collect and recheck bags, ask the airline about entry and check-in requirements before following the public transport route.

Landing at Terminal 2 and flying out of Terminal 1, the airport’s published route runs like this. From your arrival gate on the second floor, follow the green transfer signs down to basement level one and take the shuttle train, staying on it through the Concourse to Terminal 1. At Terminal 1, go up two floors to the transfer security screening area on the second floor, near gates 12 and 30. Clear screening, then go up one more floor to the third floor for your departure gate. The trains board every five minutes in each direction.

One thing the signs do not shout at you: the route is one way. The airport says outright that once you board the shuttle train you cannot come back, so do whatever you wanted to do in Terminal 2 before you go down to the platform. If you do not have the onward boarding pass yet, the transfer desks sit on the second floor before security and on the fourth floor after it.

What the airport does not publish is how long the whole thing takes door to door, and I have not timed it myself, so I am not going to invent a number. The part that moves is the screening queue, not the train. If your connection is tight, check the airport’s live wait times on the day rather than trusting a figure from a forum post, because someone else’s quiet weekday morning is not your summer weekend. And if both flights are on one booking, your airline has already accepted the connection as workable; separate tickets are where this gets expensive.

Where do you leave a suitcase in each terminal?

For late collection, compare T1 ZIMCARRY west 3F (operator hours 00:00–23:50) and T2 Hanjin west 3F near public Exit 1 (24 hours in the September directory snapshot). Confirm acceptance and collection time before storing your bag.

Do not change terminals solely because an older guide says T2 storage closes overnight. Compare the named counters and storage rates before handing over your bag.

Where is the free transit tour desk in each terminal?

The airport runs free guided transit tours for passengers with a layover of twenty-four hours or less. You need your passport and your onward boarding pass, and you have to be at the desk thirty minutes before the tour starts. In Terminal 1 the desks are on the first floor at counters 19 and 20. In Terminal 2 they are on the first floor at counters 5 and 6, opposite exit 4.

A transit tour does not automatically exempt you from Korean entry requirements. Check the airport’s current tour eligibility rules for your nationality and itinerary before booking. The airport’s tour desks are after immigration.

Does the terminal change how much layover time you need?

Terminal choice changes the route, but it does not predict the queue. Use the arrival and departure planning allowances and your airline’s deadlines alongside the journey times.

Use the route for your own terminal rather than adding a blanket half-hour to every Terminal 2 plan. The layover calculator separates travel from immigration and return allowances. These are planning scenarios, not guaranteed minimum connection times.

What to sort out before you walk out of the terminal

Download Naver Map while you have airport Wi-Fi. Use the Korean place name or address shown in the restaurant guide to check the route, next departure and opening hours. Google Maps pins can help identify a place; check the journey in Naver Map before leaving.

Check whether your own card is accepted before ordering food or taking a taxi, and keep a backup payment option. Transport-card loading is a separate issue: the cash guide explains the distinction. Do not budget on universal foreign-card acceptance.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether I land at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?

Your boarding pass states it, and so does your airline’s booking confirmation. Check it before you fly, because the two buildings are several kilometres apart and fixing a mistake costs about forty minutes.

Is there a train between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2?

Outside security, the paid AREX train connects T1 and T2. The operator’s fare table, checked 5 October 2026, lists ₩1,200 for an adult using a transport card, or ₩1,300 plus a refundable ₩500 deposit for a single-journey ticket. The airport describes a roughly six-minute ride but its older ₩1,050 figure conflicts with that operator table. The free public shuttle bus is another landside option. Inside security, eligible transfer passengers use the separate free airport shuttle train. These routes do not provide a walking connection.

Is Terminal 2 too far to leave the airport on a layover?

No. Unseo is 14 minutes from Terminal 2 by all-stop train, compared with 8 minutes from Terminal 1. Masian Beach is about 20 minutes away by taxi from Terminal 2. Whether you have enough time depends on the full itinerary, including entry formalities and the return to your gate.

How much is the train from Terminal 2 to Unseo?

₩1,800 one way on the all-stop AREX train, against ₩1,200 from Terminal 1. Prices seen in August 2026.

Can I store a large suitcase at Terminal 2 overnight?

Yes. Hanjin near public Exit 1 on the west side of T2’s third floor is listed as open 24 hours. Ask the operator to confirm acceptance and the price for your bag; the storage guide has the details.

Official route check, 5 October 2026: use Incheon Airport’s T1-to-T2 transfer instructions or T2-to-T1 instructions for your direction. Follow current signs and staff guidance; once you board the airside shuttle, the airport warns that you cannot return. This check covers transfer guidance and the linked AREX fares, not a new measurement of the August taxi/bus times above.
