The short answer: check the exact library name and weekday before leaving. Yeongjong Library is operating from temporary premises, Haneul Library closes on Fridays, and International Library closes on Mondays. Searching only for “Yeongjong library” can send you to the wrong building or a closed door.
My Korean guide put five local libraries side by side because their websites and application systems are separate. The comparison below is for choosing where to go, not a promise that a single library login works everywhere. Main-library hours and membership guidance were rechecked on September 19, 2026.
Which library is open when you need it?
| Library | Regular closure | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| 영종도서관 — Yeongjong Library | Sunday and Monday | Temporary premises in Unseo; Wednesday until 22:00 |
| 영종하늘도서관 — Haneul Library | Friday | General reading room until 22:00 Monday–Thursday |
| 영종국제도서관 — International Library | Monday | General reading room until 22:00 Tuesday–Friday |
| 영종하늘누리 작은도서관 — Haneulnuri | Saturday and Sunday | Small weekday library |
| 별빛그림도서관 — Byeolbit Picture Library | Saturday and Sunday | Picture-book focus; midday break |
Where is the temporary Yeongjong Library?
Use 인천 영종구 흰바위로59번길 8 202~203호, not the usual building on Yeongjong-daero. The official guide confirms a temporary library during the extension and renovation works. It opens Tuesday–Saturday, 09:00–18:00, with Wednesday extended to 22:00. The temporary reading-room contact is 032-745-6041.
The Korean source describes joining online and then visiting to complete card issuance. For a first visit, bring identification and check the address-document requirements for your membership type. A web account and a borrowing card are not necessarily the same thing.
Which library is useful after work?
Haneul Library at 하늘중앙로 132 has its general reading room open until 22:00 Monday–Thursday. Its children’s room closes earlier: 18:00 on those weekdays and 17:00 on weekends. The whole library has a regular Friday closure. General-room enquiries: 032-746-9143.
International Library is on the second floor of the complex culture centre at 찬들로 151. Its general reading room stays open until 22:00 Tuesday–Friday, while the children’s and foreign-language rooms close at 18:00. Weekend opening ends at 18:00. The foreign-language collection is a reason to check its catalogue, not proof that every programme is taught in English. Contact: 032-746-9501.
Can foreign residents get a library card?
Haneul Library’s official membership guide explicitly includes registered foreign residents living in Incheon. It lists a foreign registration card and proof of residence in Incheon, plus the relevant identity verification. The same page limits web-only membership to people registered under its resident-registration requirement. If online sign-up does not fit your identity documents, ask the desk about the in-person membership route rather than concluding you cannot join.
International Library also describes the national 책이음 shared-library service and notes that local membership rules still apply. Bring an existing 책이음 card if you have one, but ask the receiving library to register or import the membership as required. “Shared service” does not mean you can skip the desk on a first visit.
What are the two smaller libraries for?
Haneulnuri is on the second floor at 하늘초롱길 69. The Korean guide records weekday opening 09:00–18:00 and a membership sequence involving administrator approval and the 북덕방 app. Contact 032-760-7675 before assuming online sign-up alone activates borrowing.
Byeolbit Picture Library is on the second floor of Yeongjong 2-dong administrative centre at 은하수로 160. The source lists weekday hours 09:00–18:00 with a 12:00–13:00 break, and contact 032-746-9002. It is the picture-book-focused choice, not another name for Haneul Library.
Frequently asked questions
Does one website list every programme? No. Start with the specific library’s programme page. The operators and application systems differ.
Are the September vacancies still accurate? Seat counts change quickly. This guide deliberately does not repeat the source’s old “9 out of 20” or waiting-list counts as current availability.
Can I stay until 22:00 in any room? No. Extended hours apply to specific reading rooms. Children’s and foreign-language rooms can close earlier.
