Coffee Roastery Near Incheon Airport: Six House Blends, Any of Them Decaf

The sign is on the first floor of the building, and the red panel with the yellow arrow points at the door. The arched windows are the thing you spot from the road.

The short answer: Sohn Coffee Lab (손커피연구소) roasts its own beans on the premises in Yeongjong Sky City, 13 minutes and about ₩11,400 by taxi from Incheon Airport Terminal 1. An iced americano is ₩4,500, and you choose which of six house blends it is made from. The board also says every drink can be made decaf, which is the part worth planning a layover around.

There is one window table with a sea view, screened by a big planter and a curtain, but one table is not a reason to cross the island. This is a roastery with seats in it, and the coffee is the reason to come. Every price below was read off the menu board and the handwritten labels in the cake case, in August 2026.

What makes this different from the cafes inside Incheon Airport?

Sohn Coffee Lab roasts on site, and the roasting changes what you are allowed to order rather than just decorating the room. The line printed across the top of the coffee board says that americano, cafe latte, hand drip and espresso can each be made from any of six house blends. You are choosing a bean, not only a drink.

The second line on that same board says every drink can be made decaf. That is unusual enough that it is the reason I would send a layover passenger to this particular cafe: if you land in the afternoon and fly out overnight, decaf is how you get the sitting-down-with-a-cup part without paying for it at 35,000 feet.

The whole board is in Korean. The six illustrated blends across the middle are the ones you pick from, and the two starred lines at the top are the blend rule and the decaf rule.

Read off the coffee board, August 2026. A reflection sits over the hot americano price in my photo, so I have left that one cell out rather than guess it. On the non-coffee half of the board, teas run ₩5,000–₩6,000 and fresh fruit ades ₩6,200–₩6,500.

The americano at Sohn Coffee Lab is on the strong side, which is worth knowing before you order it iced and expect something light. The iced latte does not disappear into the milk either — the coffee is still the loudest thing in the glass.

What is “Today’s Coffee” on the menu?

Today’s Coffee (오늘의 커피) is a rotating single-origin drip at ₩5,500 hot and ₩6,000 iced, which is ₩500 cheaper than the hand drip made from a house blend. On the day I went it was an Ethiopia Abaya Gesha G1 Natural, and the card standing on the counter listed plum, brown sugar and blackberry. That is the sharp, sweet, high-acidity end of what they roast rather than the nutty end.

The wall menu is Korean only, so this card is the one place at the ordering counter where the coffee is described in English. If you want to know what you are drinking before you order it, read the card rather than the board.

Is there anything to eat with the coffee?

There is a chilled cake case with about nine things in it and a scone shelf sitting on top of it. Both scones are ₩3,700 — walnut raisin, and a cinnamon roll scone that the shop has labelled “Best!”. The cake labels are handwritten in Korean with the price under the name, so this is another place where pointing works.

I had the matcha basque with an iced americano and an iced latte. The outside is baked dark, the inside is a damp matcha-flecked cheese that splits softly under a fork, and the matcha reads nutty rather than bitter. The cream on top is sweeter than the cake itself — if sweet is not your thing, push some of it aside. It worked for me only because the americano is strong enough to sit against it.

Can you buy beans or drip bags to take home?

One long wooden counter along the wall is retail only. Drip bags are laid out loose so you can pick them up one at a time, in all six blends including the decaf. Behind them are whole-bean bags of the single origin, and gift boxes tied with ribbon for people buying it as a present. There are also little sealed espresso pouches (에쏘백), three shots each, at ₩3,500 apiece.

The drip bag packets print their tasting notes in English on the front — “cacao, brown sugar, mild body” on the Smoke Cacao, “honey, blackberry, peach” on the Honey Berry Bean, “floral, sugar syrup, citrus” on the Flower Africa. That makes the takeaway counter the easiest part of the shop to use without any Korean, and it is a better souvenir than the coffee on the duty-free shelf because you can taste it in the room first.

Driving times and metered fares queried on Naver Directions, September 2026. Terminal 2 is only two minutes further in time but 5.6 km further in distance, and that distance is where the ₩4,100 gap comes from.

There is also a bus that needs no transfer. Route 202 leaves Terminal 1 from stop 13B on the first floor, runs 28 minutes to 제일풍경채디오션아파트, and costs ₩1,500. With the walk at either end that is about 34 minutes door to door against 13 minutes in a taxi. The catch is the interval, which I cannot promise you — check the next departure in Naver Map before you decide to wait for it, and take the taxi if the gap is long.

Show a driver this, rather than any romanised version of it: 손커피연구소 영종하늘도시점, 인천 영종구 해맞이길 35. Yeongjong Sky City is 영종하늘도시, and the road the cafe sits on is 해맞이길. Paste the Korean into Naver Map for walking directions and same-day opening hours; use the Google Maps pin for Sohn Coffee Lab if you only want to see where on the island it is.

How much layover time does a coffee stop here actually take?

Below is the same arithmetic applied to every restaurant on this island, run for this cafe. It covers everything except the time you spend sitting with the cup, because that is yours to decide. Read it as a range and not a promise — immigration is the line that decides the whole thing.

My rule for Sky City has not changed for a cafe: five hours on the ground is the floor. A coffee stop is shorter than a meal, so five is more comfortable here than it is for a sit-down dinner, but the taxi ride and the immigration queue do not get shorter because your order is smaller. The full case for and against going out at all is in the honest time math on leaving Incheon Airport during a layover, and if you have exactly six hours, what a six-hour layover at Incheon actually fits is the one to read next. Before any of that, work out what the airport charges to hold your bags, because that line in the table is the one that quietly eats an hour.

What should you know before you walk in?

The wall menu is Korean only. The two exceptions are the Today’s Coffee card on the counter and the drip bag packets on the retail shelf, both of which carry English. Ordering is a pointing exercise otherwise, and the board is laid out clearly enough that pointing works.

There are two kinds of seat. The front has ordinary tables and benches, spaced far enough apart that you are not sitting in someone else’s conversation. Further in there is a separate room where you take your shoes off and sit on cushions at low tables. If you have just come off a long flight, the low tables are not the kind option. I did not check whether there is anywhere to park a large suitcase, so do not count on it.

Sitting alone is normal. Somebody with a laptop at a table draws no attention at all, and nobody moves you along. Parking is in front of the building and down the side, so a rental car is not a problem. Cards work, as they do everywhere in Korea, and there is no tipping.

I do not have their opening hours, break time or closing day, so check the shop in Naver Map on the morning you plan to go. That is the one thing in this article I would not want you to take on trust.

Is it worth leaving the airport just for coffee?

If coffee is the only reason, no. Both terminals sell coffee, and no cup is worth two immigration queues on its own. That is the honest version.

Where it does make sense is as the second half of a trip you were already making. Sky City is where the pork cutlet restaurant that suits a table where not everyone eats spicy food is, and the conveyor belt sushi place charging ₩1,990 a plate is in the same cluster of blocks. Eat in Sky City, walk or take a short ride to the roastery, buy drip bags, go back. That is a good five-hour layover. It also makes sense on its own if you need decaf before a night flight, or if you want a present that is not from a duty-free shelf.

If what you actually want is somewhere to sit and look at water, this is the wrong cafe on this island. Go to Emcliff, the ocean view cafe at Masian Beach instead — the view is the entire point of that one. It is a bigger ask on your clock, though: I would not attempt Emcliff under seven hours, where this roastery works at five. Sohn Coffee Lab is what you choose when what you want is the coffee.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sohn Coffee Lab have an English menu? No. The wall menu is entirely Korean. The Today’s Coffee card on the counter and the drip bag packets on the retail shelf print origins and tasting notes in English, and the six blends on the board each have an illustration you can point at.

Can you order decaf? Yes. The coffee board states that every drink can be made decaf, and decaf is also one of the six blends in its own right. Decaf drip is ₩6,000 hot and ₩6,500 iced.

How much is an iced americano at Sohn Coffee Lab? An iced americano is ₩4,500, made from whichever of the six house blends you choose. An iced latte is ₩5,000.

Is there floor seating? Yes. Past the main room there is a separate area with cushions and low tables where you take your shoes off. The front of the shop has ordinary tables and benches if that is not for you.

Can you sit alone with a laptop? Yes, and it is unremarkable. Coming to a Korean cafe alone and staying a while is normal behaviour, not something anyone reads as odd.

Is there parking? Yes, in front of the building and along the side, which matters if you have picked up a rental car at the airport rather than a taxi.

How far is Sohn Coffee Lab from Incheon Airport Terminal 1? The drive is 10.5 km and takes about 13 minutes, with a metered taxi fare of roughly ₩11,400. Bus 202 from stop 13B on the first floor of Terminal 1 takes 28 minutes and costs ₩1,500 with no transfer.
