You can sleep at Incheon Airport, and you do not have to pay for it. What decides your options is not money, it is whether you can get through immigration. The free nap zones are inside security. The capsule hotel is outside it, in a different building. If you are connecting without a Korean visa you can reach the first and not the second, and nobody tells you that until you are standing there at midnight.
The other thing worth knowing before you plan around it: the paid showers close at 23:00 and open again at 05:00. An overnight layover is the exact case where you want one, and it is the exact window where there isn’t one.

The free nap zones are inside security
Both terminals have a nap zone on the fourth floor, past passport control, listed in the directory as sleeping rooms with beds. In Terminal 1 there is one, in the east transfer lounge. Terminal 2 has two, near gate 268 and near gate 231. That asymmetry matters if you are choosing a seat on a long connection: Terminal 2 gives you a second option when the first is full, Terminal 1 does not.
They are free and they are the realistic answer for most transit passengers. The Korean on the signs is 냅존, and the fuller form on the directory is 냅존(수면실). If you are asking staff, the second one is the word that reads as "sleeping room" and gets you pointed the right way.
Don’t assume the nap zones run all night
The directory lists both nap zones as 00:00–00:00. That is not the string it uses for round-the-clock facilities – the transit hotels and the capsule hotel are written 00:00–24:00. So the two are recorded differently, and I am not going to tell you the nap zones are open twenty-four hours when the airport’s own listing does not say so in the way it says so everywhere else. Treat it as unconfirmed and check on the day, especially if the nap zone is the entire plan.
The capsule hotel is not inside the terminal
Darakhyu is the one people find first when they search, and it is the one most likely to waste your night. Both branches are in the Transportation Center – the building with the trains and the bus stops – not in the terminal past security. T1’s is on the first floor in the middle, T2’s is on the east side near the bus ticket windows. Getting there means clearing immigration and entering Korea.
If you hold a passport that needs a visa or K-ETA for entry and you do not have one, that building is not available to you, however many rooms it has free. The transit hotel on the fourth floor is the equivalent that stays on your side of the line. T1’s has 37 rooms, T2’s has 50, and Darakhyu has 60 per branch, so the airside option is also the smaller one.
Darakhyu’s T1 listing splits into Day Use from 06:00 to 20:00 and Overnight from 20:00 to 06:00, and both branches list shared showers. Rates are not in the airport directory and I am not going to guess at them – book through the operator and you will see the current price before you commit.
The shower closes at 23:00
Four paid shower rooms, two per terminal, all on the fourth floor inside security: gates 25 and 29 in Terminal 1, gates 268 and 231 in Terminal 2. The directory sells them in 30-minute slots and says towel and amenities are included. Opening hours are 05:00 to 23:00 at all four.
Read that against an overnight connection and the problem is obvious. If you land at 22:00 you have an hour. If you land at 01:00 you have nothing until five in the morning. The shared showers at the capsule hotel are the fallback, and they are on the other side of immigration. Plan the shower around the clock rather than assuming it will be there when you wake up.
Massage is listed airside in both terminals, if that is the version of a reset you want. Terminal 2 has two Body Care counters at the same gate clusters as the showers, 07:00 to 20:00. Terminal 1 has mabe Aesthetic ICN on the fourth floor in the west transfer area by gate 43, 08:00 to 20:00. Both shut before the showers do.
There is also a spa called 스파앳홈 on the basement level of each terminal, and it is the only thing in this whole set listed as genuinely 24 hours. The directory does not mark which side of security it sits on, and a basement level in the terminal is normally landside, so do not build an overnight plan on it without checking. I am flagging it because 24 hours is rare here, not because I can confirm you can reach it.
Where this breaks down
This is a directory post, not a review. I have not slept in the transit hotel or used the showers, and I am not going to write about the pillows. What I can tell you is what the airport publishes about location, side of security and hours, because that is the part that actually decides whether your plan works, and it is the part missing from the English write-ups.
Three limits worth naming. Prices are not in the directory for the showers, the nap zones or the hotels, so none appear above. The nap zone hours are recorded ambiguously, as described. And the directory did not mark a zone on some entries, so the Transportation Center calls above come from what the building is – it holds the station and the bus stops, which puts it before security – rather than from a label in the data.
One more: this all assumes you know which terminal you are in. They are far apart and the answer is less obvious than it looks, so if there is any doubt, work out which terminal your flight actually departs from before you commit to a nap zone at the far end of the wrong building. If you do end up needing to cross, the shuttle between the two terminals takes about 20 minutes and there is a faster train option.
Common questions
Can you sleep at Incheon Airport for free?
Yes. Both terminals have nap zones on the fourth floor inside security, listed with beds, at no charge. Terminal 1 has one in the east transfer lounge and Terminal 2 has two, near gates 268 and 231.
Can I use the capsule hotel on a transit without a visa?
No. Both Darakhyu branches sit in the Transportation Center, outside security, so reaching one means entering Korea. If you cannot clear immigration, the transit hotel on the fourth floor is the option that stays airside.
Is there a shower at Incheon Airport at night?
Not in the paid shower rooms. All four are listed 05:00 to 23:00. Between those hours there is no airside shower in the directory, and the alternative is the shared shower at the capsule hotel, which is outside security.
Is the transit hotel inside security?
Yes, both of them. Terminal 1’s is on the fourth floor near gate 11 and Terminal 2’s is on the fourth floor opposite gate 252, so neither requires clearing immigration.
What should I have on my phone before I land?
The Korean names, so you can show them rather than pronounce them: 냅존(수면실) for the nap zone, 환승호텔 for the transit hotel, 유료 샤워실 for the paid shower, and 다락휴 for Darakhyu. The Transportation Center is 교통센터.
What else is open while I wait?
Food is the other overnight question and it runs on the same inside-or-outside split, so it is worth reading which food counters sit inside security and which do not. For the wider picture of what actually stays open at the airport overnight, including trains and storage, that is a separate guide.
