The ceiling from the table. It changes through the day, so the colour you get is not necessarily this one.

The restaurants at Inspire Resort sit nine minutes from Incheon Airport Terminal 2 and thirteen from Terminal 1, and the one I keep ending up at is MJ23 on the second floor. It calls itself a sports bar and grill, which undersells it, because the menu is mostly Korean and the tables sit directly under the resort media art ceiling. The whale drifts over your head while you wait for the food.

That is the argument for coming on a layover. You are not choosing between eating and seeing the thing people come to Inspire for. You need about six hours to make the round trip comfortably, and I would not attempt it on four.

I have been twice and paid both times. The meal described below is the one I ate with my parents.

How far is Inspire Resort from Incheon Airport?

Driving times, distances and taxi fares queried in September 2026. Public transport figures include the walk at both ends but not the wait for the bus.

Terminal 2 is the closer one, which is worth saying out loud because it is the wrong way round. For almost everywhere else on Yeongjong, Terminal 2 is the terminal that costs you an extra five or six kilometres. Inspire is built on the Terminal 2 side, so the usual penalty reverses. If you are trying to work out which terminal you are actually in, the differences between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on a layover covers the walk, the train between them and the timing.

The bus is bus 204, from the number 11 exit on the third floor at Terminal 2. The ride is 20 minutes to the Inspire Resort stop and then a five minute walk. I cannot give you a reliable frequency for it, so check the next departure in Naver Map before you commit to waiting. From Terminal 1 the same trip means the train to Terminal 2 first, which is why it stretches to about 35 minutes.

How long a layover do you need for Inspire Resort?

This is the part no one writes down. The meal is 90 minutes; everything either side of it is the airport.

From Terminal 1, timings checked in September 2026. From Terminal 2 the taxi legs drop to nine minutes each, which takes about eight minutes off both columns.

So six hours works and four does not. Five is the uncomfortable middle, and it gets worse if you want to walk the media art hall rather than only eat under it, which is most of the reason to come. Add another 30 to 40 minutes if that is the plan. What a seven-hour layover at Incheon actually buys you lays out the same arithmetic against the other options.

None of this works if you are carrying your luggage. The luggage storage desks and lockers at Incheon Airport lists what is in each terminal and what it costs. And if you are not sure whether you are allowed out at all, start with the rules on leaving Incheon Airport during a layover.

What is the media art ceiling at Inspire?

It is free. There is no ticket, no admission desk and nothing to book — you walk into the hall and look up. That matters more on a layover than it sounds, because it means the only thing seeing it costs you is the round trip from the airport.

A whale drifts through cloud across the full width of the ceiling, in pink and then in a darker blue. Plenty of people come to Inspire mainly to look at it, and MJ23 sits under it rather than beside it. That is the whole trick: you can watch it from your seat instead of standing in the hall with everyone else.

Both times I went it came round while we were waiting for the food. I do not have a reliable schedule to give you and I am not going to guess at one, so if catching it matters, ask at the resort when you arrive.

What should you order at MJ23?

MJ23 reads as a sports bar from the doorway and then turns out to serve tteokbokki, fried chicken and pork cutlet. For a group that cannot agree on anything, that is the point of it.

A platter of thick-sliced boiled pork with napa cabbage leaves, perilla leaves, garlic, green chilli, a mustard dip and a mound of red dressed vegetables.
The Seasonal Seafood Bossam Set. The red pile on the right is dressed vegetables, and it does most of the work of cutting the pork.

The bossam set was the summer special. The pork came thick-sliced and tender with no gaminess, laid out with napa cabbage, perilla leaves, garlic, green chilli and a mustard dip, and a mound of spicy dressed vegetables alongside that stopped the whole thing feeling heavy. It is priced as a sharing dish and it behaves like one.

The pork cutlet. The batter is thick and stays crisp under the sauce, and this is more food than it looks.

The pork cutlet arrived on a wide plate with the sauce ladled over the middle, rice underneath and coleslaw at the edge. The batter was thick and properly crisp. It is too much for one person to finish and it is better ordered as something the table picks at.

Both dishes on the table at once. Two dishes between three people was enough.

Two dishes were enough for the three of us. The prices are resort prices and I am not going to pretend otherwise, but the portions are the reason it still adds up.

How do you order at MJ23 if you do not speak Korean?

The summer card I photographed carried Korean and English names, an English sentence describing the menu, and a photograph of every dish. Pointing works. I can only vouch for that card, not for every menu in the building, but a bilingual card in a resort restaurant is a fair signal.

Cards work, as they do everywhere in Korea. There is no tipping and no service charge to work out at the end.

What is MJ23 like inside?

Interior of MJ23 with a tall backlit green column, wood flooring, dark green booth seating and empty tables.
The green column sits in the middle of the room.

Green light columns, wood floors, framed pictures and speakers on the walls, a large screen running overhead. It is a bar room, but a quiet-edged one.

The booths. The gap between tables is the reason this worked with my parents rather than in spite of them.

The tables are set far enough apart that you are not sharing a conversation with the next one. That is why it worked for a meal with my parents, and it is the same reason it would work if you have been on a plane for eleven hours and do not want to be shouted over.

Should you eat at Inspire Resort on a layover?

If you are already going to Inspire for the media art, yes, and MJ23 is the sensible pick inside it: nobody in a mixed group is going to object to tteokbokki, chicken or a cutlet, and the ceiling above the table costs nothing to look at.

If what you actually want is a cheap Korean meal, this is the wrong building. You will pay resort prices for food that is good rather than remarkable. Go to Unseo instead, where a bowl of Korean soup near Incheon Airport is about ₩11,000 and the trip is shorter. And if you have under five hours, do neither.

MJ23 and Inspire Resort FAQ

How do I get from Incheon Airport to Inspire Resort?

From Terminal 2, take bus 204 from the number 11 exit on the third floor. The ride is 20 minutes and costs ₩1,500. A taxi is nine minutes and about ₩9,600. From Terminal 1 the same journey is about 35 minutes by public transport or 13 minutes by taxi at about ₩11,100.

Is the media art at Inspire Resort free?

Yes. There is no ticket and no admission charge for the ceiling in the Aurora hall — you walk in and look up. What it costs you on a layover is the round trip from the airport: 13 minutes and about ₩11,100 by taxi from Terminal 1, nine minutes and about ₩9,600 from Terminal 2.

Is Inspire Resort worth it on a 5-hour layover?

It is tight. On a bad day the round trip from Terminal 1 runs to about six hours and sixteen minutes once immigration and the return security queue are counted. Five hours leaves you no margin, and none at all if you want to walk the media art hall as well as eat under it.

Does MJ23 have an English menu?

The seasonal card on the table in July 2026 had Korean and English names, an English description and a photograph of each dish. Pointing at the picture is enough to order.

How much does a meal at MJ23 cost?

The summer bossam set was ₩49,000, watermelon hwachae ₩22,000 and cold chicken noodles ₩17,000 in July 2026. Two dishes fed three people. These are resort prices. For comparison, a bowl of soup in Unseo runs about ₩11,000 to ₩12,000.

Can I leave Incheon Airport during a layover to eat at Inspire Resort?

Most travellers can, provided they are eligible to enter Korea and their bags are checked through or stored. You clear immigration as an arriving passenger and check in again afterwards. The rules on leaving Incheon Airport during a layover set out the exceptions.
